Why Most Adults Never Experience Relaxation

We live in a very busy world full of people trying to tell us what to do, where to go, and all types of noise. We constantly have advertisement in our faces, music blaring, televisions wasting our time, and all types of other electronic devices keeping us occupied. These are not forms of relaxation even though we think they are.

Sure you get off of work and come home to your favorite chair or couch, plop down, and think you are relaxing with the television on. However, all you really are doing is avoiding what you need to be thinking about. Your body might not have to do much work in this very recognizable position, but your mind is working.

The art of relaxation is something we are never taught. They don’t give us a lesson on meditation or on how to find a quiet place and escape from the world in school. Nobody warns us that if we don’t find time to relax it will never happen. We don’t even take proper vacations anymore, especially in the United States.

When was the last time you went on a vacation with no plan once you arrived at your destination? When was the last time you spent a week doing nothing but relaxing on a beach? Instead you probably took a vacation that was more hectic than your everyday life with itineraries and things to go see. These are just fine, but not if you need to relax.

3 Recommendations for Total Relaxation Year Round

1. Proper Vacationing

The first recommendation to gain total relaxation is to make sure you vacation properly. You need to have at least 2 weeks of vacation time for this to work properly. If you don’t get this much time off and you have been with your company for at least 2 years, then it is time to renegotiate your benefits. This is another issue in the United States, but we won’t get into that right now.

Since most of us have families, even if they are just our parents and siblings, we need a week of vacation time every year to visit with them. Even if you don’t have to travel that far to see them it is important to see your family. This leaves you with one week left of vacation time and this is where you are going to find total relaxation.

Take a vacation to a destination that is peaceful and out of the ordinary. Get away from the noise by going to the beach, going camping, or doing something you enjoy that is not strenuous. For the entire week take all the electronic devices out of your life and simply see nature and spend time in quiet and peace.

Of course, for emergency purposes take a cellular phone and check it once in the morning or give someone the phone number to your hotel. Other than this small contact with the outside world just escape into a peaceful place where you can be alone or with your spouse for a week of uninterrupted relaxation. No bosses bothering you, no family gossip, and nothing disrupting your peace.

2. Daily Quiet

It is very hard to find peace and quiet in our world and we all grew up with a parent that would specifically say they needed some peace and quiet at some point. Well, there is quite a bit of truth behind that statement and you need peach and quiet every single day. Find a place you can go that is 100% quiet and you will be uninterrupted for 10 to 20 minutes every single day.

This could be your bedroom, your church, out by a pond or lake, or anywhere else you know you can go and just sit in quiet for 10 to 20 minutes. If you do this every single day you will be amazed at how your mind will relax and find the solace it desperately needs.

3. Exercise

Now you may be thinking how is exercise going to bring me relaxation, but you have to look at both sides of the coin. When you exercise you help to wear your body out every single day. This makes it much easier to relax when it is time to do so. Plus exercise is a stress reliever and a great escape from the world.

If you commit to a 10 minute walk every single day and work up to a 30 minute walk or actually jogging it will do wonders for how you feel. Another option is to join a local pool and swim laps for 15 minutes a day. This can be very peaceful because it is usually very quiet during lap swim at the pool.

Why is Total Relaxation so Important?

Our bodies and minds are not set up to cope with the daily garbage put in front of us. It is important to get the proper relaxation in our lives or we will never be able to sort out what is really going on in our heads. Society raises us to be robots, go to college, get a job, have a family, and die. This is not what life is supposed to be and it is not perfect for everybody.

You need to be able to relax and find the things you love within yourself. If you can find true inner peace your life will be filled with more joy and happiness than you could ever imagine.
